I'm rooting for Moby. I mean come on, all he ever did was look really cool and defend himself. By saying you support Ahab your saying you support the Paparazzi constantly attacking the rich and famous, driving some even to death aka Princess Diana. These relentless attacks must stop.
I sense a conspiracy theorist in our midst, billybob.
However, I am also rooting for Moby. There is a time and a place for vengeance, and I can understand being bitter that a whale took off your leg, but pursuing said whale to the ends of the earth hardly seems worthwhile. Not only does Ahab ruin himself by taking that position--whatever happened to his wife and child anyway?--but he has the potential to drag an entire crew down with him, people who, yes, are with him based on greed and a little loyalty, but probably don't want to end their lives on his account. Moby, on the other hand, can be a mean old bugger, but that just makes him the equivalent of a nasty old man, snapping at the least provocation. I don't know if Starbuck has said this yet (and if he hasn't, don't worry he will) but Moby is not chasing Ahab; Ahab is chasing Moby. The affair is totally one-sided.
Moby all the way. Ahab is an old devil and he can't hel but parish at the end of his quest. I see Moby dying too but it would be really ironic if after all that work Ahab dies and Ishmael is left floating around and he sees Moby surface and makes some philosophical comment on it. I'ld like to see that. AeolusEast
Moby will win. I sincerely wish Starbuck had blown Ahab's brains out when he had the chance, but I am confident that my desires will not go unheeded by Melville. Either Ahab will lose his autocratic rule by mutiny, or Moby will slaughter him directly or he "will go down with the ship." There is no alternative.
Moby. Perhaps not in politics, but in fiction at least I prefer to side with the winner, and Ahab has no chance against the white whale. Besides, Moby has never done anything except to defend himself. The missing leg for which Ahab holds a grudge occurred while Moby Dick was defending himself against Ahab's attempt to kill him. You can't seriously be rooting for the aggressor against the victim of these attacks, can you?
I have to agree with my classmates and say that I prefer Moby. Ahab is a little much and I think he needs to find something else to do in life besides searching for a whale day in and day out that was only protecting itself in the first place. He is just a whale that wants to be left alone.
I'm rooting for Ahab. Moby has gotten on my nerves because he thinks he's a big bad super-whale. Also, Moby has some nerve not to make an appearance until chapter 133. So, I'm rooting for Ahab to show Moby what a real harpoon can do to him!
I dont really think Moby Dick thinks of himself as a "big shot". Ahab was the first one who tried to kill Moby, and in his defence, Moby bit off Ahab's leg. So basically Ahab's handicap is his own fault. Moby Dick is an innocent whale, who kills to order to aviod being killed. He is just taking necessary measures to protect himself when he is being invaded in his own "home".
I am going to have to disagree with most of the class. I am rooting for Captain Ahab. All we have ever heard so far is that Moby Dick is an unstoppable force that no one has ever come close to killing. I like to see the underdog win occasionally and I think Ahab has a chance. I want to see the impossible happen. Ahab is a classic character and it would be sad to see him fail in his life;s quest. My allegiance lies with Ahab.
I'm definitely rooting for Moby. Ahad is a cranky, old, selfish man and I really hope that Moby 'finishes him off'.. if you know what I'm sayin. Ahab chooses to put all of his sailors in danger for his own selfish wants. Moby is a poor, innocent creature that only defends himself. If Ahab wouldn't have tried to kill him, then he would still have his leg. LEAVE MOBY ALONEE.
SAVE THE WHALES!!!!!!!!!!! GO MOBY!!!!!!!!!! really, what did he do to you Ahab? sure he bit off your leg blah blah blah... we all know Moby, being the awesome super cool whale he is never would have done that had he not been provoked, shame on you Ahab! KTMAN
I going to play devil's advocate and say that I'm not rooting for either of them. Ahab needs to understand that there's more in life than the whale, and the whale just seems rather sinister. His descriptions don't cast him in that great of light, but I guess that's because it's from Ahab's point of view. So I suppose that I want them both to die. Then Stubb, Tashtego, and all the other cool ship mates can be rid of Ahab and get credit for eliminating Moby!!!
I am rooting for Ahab. I totally get why you would be upset if something bit off your leg. I don't care if a whale is just being a whale! Is a murderer just being a murderer when they kill people? The fact that he is a whale does not justify him biting off legs or arms or anything it's just rude. - the clique
